Chassagne & Puligny-Montrachet 2024: irresistible wines according to Decanter

The prestigious British magazine Decanter has devoted a long feature to the white wines of the 2024 vintage from Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, two of the most celebrated appellations of the Côte de Beaune. The verdict is unequivocal: the wines of this vintage rank among the most seductive of the decade, marrying crystalline freshness to a depth of fruit rarely encountered at this stage of their evolution.

What sets the 2024 vintage apart is, above all, its natural balance. After several years marked by heat and concentration, 2024 marks a return to more classical profiles, with precise acidities and remarkably low pH levels. The grapes benefited from a slow, gradual ripening that preserved aromatic elegance while developing a subtle textural richness. It is a vintage that recalls the finest successes of 2010 and 2014.

For the Abbaye de Morgeot, this climatic context proved ideal. Our Premier Cru parcels, set on the clay-limestone slopes of Chassagne, produced wines of exceptional mineral complexity. The Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Garenne, for its part, displays a tension and purity that bear witness to the quality of this monopole terroir.

The freshness of the 2024 vintage translates into wines with considerable ageing potential. Whereas certain recent vintages invited relatively early consumption, the 2024s possess the structure and acidity needed to evolve gracefully over ten to fifteen years, and even longer for the best-sited Premiers Crus.

Collectors and seasoned enthusiasts would be ill-advised to overlook this vintage. As Decanter points out, allocations of Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet remain limited, and international demand continues to grow. Securing the 2024s of the Duc de Magenta estate early on means assured access to wines that combine historic prestige with the excellence of the vintage.
