Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos de la Garenne — reviewed by Jancis Robinson

The celebrated British critic Jancis Robinson, one of the most respected voices in the world of wine, has tasted and reviewed our Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Morgeot Clos de la Garenne. Her assessment confirms the place of this cuvée among the most accomplished white wines of the Côte de Beaune.

In her tasting note, Jancis Robinson highlights the wine's remarkable mineral complexity. The Clos de la Garenne, set at the heart of the climat Morgeot, benefits from deep clay-limestone soils where layers of marl and stone come to the surface. This distinctive geology is mirrored in the glass through notes of gunflint, damp chalk and fresh almond — a mineral register that sets great Chassagne apart from more generic wines.

The length on the palate is another trait the critic singles out. The wine unfolds with a rare aromatic persistence, each sip revealing fresh facets — candied citrus, white flowers, toasted hazelnut — in a finish that seems reluctant to fade. It is this length that separates a fine wine from a great wine, and the Morgeot Clos de la Garenne belongs unambiguously to the latter category.

The Premier Cru Morgeot is one of the largest and most complex climats in Chassagne-Montrachet. Within this appellation, the Clos de la Garenne occupies a privileged position: a historic walled enclosure linked to the Abbey, it enjoys ideal exposure and drainage. The vines, several decades old, drive their roots deep into the limestone subsoil, drawing out raw material of exceptional intensity and precision.

This recognition by Jancis Robinson is part of a series of distinctions confirming the estate's growing presence on the international stage. For enthusiasts in search of great white Burgundies that combine authenticity, terroir and an outstanding quality-to-prestige ratio, the Duc de Magenta's Morgeot Clos de la Garenne is a cuvée to follow very closely.
