An exceptional sparkling wine from the Côte de Beaune

The 2022 Crémant de Bourgogne from Abbaye de Morgeot is a sparkling wine of great distinction, made by the traditional method from Chardonnay grapes hand-harvested on the estate's parcels at Chassagne-Montrachet. Second fermentation in bottle and extended ageing on the lees for more than 12 months give this crémant a mousse of exceptional finesse and an aromatic complexity rarely found in the appellation.

The fruit of the ancestral craft of the Mac Mahon family — Duc de Magenta — owners of the estate since the 19th century, this Crémant de Bourgogne stands alongside the finest French sparkling cuvées. Whole-bunch pressing, a technique borrowed from the great Champagne houses, preserves the purity of the fruit and the freshness characteristic of great Burgundian Chardonnays.

Perfect for an aperitif, celebrations or a festive Sunday brunch, this crémant embodies the accessible elegance of wine-growing Burgundy. It offers a refined alternative to Champagne, carried by the nobility of the Côte de Beaune terroirs and the historic heritage of the Abbaye de Morgeot, founded in 1150.

A bright pale-gold robe of dazzling clarity, crossed by strings of delicate, persistent bubbles that bear witness to the quality of the second fermentation and extended ageing on the lees.

Nose

Expressive, generous bouquet of crisp green apple, fresh lemon and acacia blossom, enhanced by elegant notes of toasted brioche and hazelnut inherited from ageing on the lees.

Palate

A creamy, enveloping mousse with a fresh, tonic attack on citrus notes. The mid-palate is round and harmonious, with flavours of sweet almond. The finish is clean, lively and refreshing, irresistibly inviting the next sip.

Terroir & traditional method

Crémant de Bourgogne is made according to the same strict rules as Champagne: compulsory hand-harvesting, whole-bunch pressing, second fermentation in bottle and ageing on the lees for a minimum of 12 months. At Abbaye de Morgeot, we extend this ageing to achieve finer bubbles and heightened aromatic complexity. The Chardonnay grapes come from selected parcels on the limestone and clay-limestone soils of Chassagne-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune.

The Crémant de Bourgogne appellation, created in 1975, has established itself as one of the French benchmarks for quality sparkling wine. The purity of the Chardonnays of the Côte de Beaune, combined with the viticultural craft of the Mac Mahon family, produces a crémant of remarkable finesse, worthy of the finest tables. The semi-continental climate and soils rich in limestone provide the tension and minerality that characterise great Burgundian sparkling wines.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Crémant de Bourgogne and Champagne?

Crémant de Bourgogne and Champagne share the same production method — the traditional method with a second fermentation in the bottle. The main difference lies in the region of production: Crémant comes from the limestone terroirs of the Côte de Beaune, offering an often more fruit-driven and rounder profile at a more accessible price, while retaining remarkable finesse.

How should I store a Crémant de Bourgogne?

Store your Crémant on its side in a cool place (10-12°C), away from light and vibration. Before serving, place it in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 hours to reach the ideal serving temperature of 6 to 8°C. This 2022 vintage will keep ideally for 2 to 3 years.

Does Crémant de Bourgogne make a good gift?

Absolutely. Crémant de Bourgogne is a refined yet accessible gift. Its elegance and traditional-method production make it a much-appreciated present for any occasion. The Crémant from Abbaye de Morgeot, from the historic Duc de Magenta estate, adds a heritage dimension that makes the gift even more memorable.
