The generous side of Burgundian Pinot Noir

The 2021 Bourgogne Rosé from Abbaye de Morgeot is a rare and confidential expression of Chassagne-Montrachet Pinot Noir. Made by the saignée method — an ancestral technique in which part of the juice is drawn off after a short maceration with the skins — this rosé preserves all the delicacy and aromatic intensity of Burgundy's most noble grape.

Unlike southern rosés made from Grenache or Cinsault, this Bourgogne Rosé draws all its personality from Pinot Noir, offering a finesse and delicate structure found nowhere else. Vinification in stainless-steel tanks at low temperature preserves the freshness of the aromas and the natural liveliness of the fruit, hallmarks of this exceptional terroir.

A wine of pure pleasure, this Bourgogne Rosé is the ideal companion for summer aperitifs, lunches on the terrace and light meals with friends. It illustrates the diversity of the wines produced by the Abbaye de Morgeot estate, owned by the Mac Mahon family, Duc de Magenta, at Chassagne-Montrachet since the 19th century.

Appearance

A pale salmon-pink robe, luminous and crystalline, reflecting the nobility of Burgundian Pinot Noir. The delicate hue and perfect clarity attest to careful vinification by the saignée method.

Nose

A fresh, charming bouquet of wild strawberry, tangy redcurrant and rose petal. Notes of pink citrus (grapefruit, blood orange) add complexity and liveliness to the aromatic whole.

Palate

A lively, crunchy attack with lovely freshness on red-berry fruits. Pinot Noir brings a delicate structure and a mid-palate volume rare for a rosé. The finish is elegant, slightly spiced, with a surprising length.

Burgundy rosé: a confidential production

Burgundy rosé is a rare production that showcases the most generous side of Pinot Noir. Unlike Provençal rosés made from southern grape varieties, Burgundian rosé draws its personality from the most noble grape of the Côte de Beaune. The saignée vinification practised at Abbaye de Morgeot involves drawing off part of the juice after a short maceration to obtain this delicate salmon-pink hue.

The grapes come from the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. The clay-limestone soils and the semi-continental climate bring freshness and tension to the wine, while vinification in stainless-steel tanks at low temperature preserves the full range of fruit aromas. This rosé reflects the diversity of the craft of the Mac Mahon family, Duc de Magenta, who have cultivated these lands for more than a century.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Burgundy rosé really exist?

Absolutely. Burgundy rosé is a confidential, little-known production that showcases the most generous side of Pinot Noir. Unlike Provençal rosés, Burgundian rosé offers a singular finesse and elegance, with a delicate structure not found in southern rosés.

When should I drink this Bourgogne Rosé?

This 2021 Bourgogne Rosé is a wine for immediate pleasure, ideally to be enjoyed within 1 to 2 years. It is perfect for aperitifs, summer meals, Sunday brunches and barbecues with friends. Serve it well chilled, between 8 and 10°C, to reveal all its liveliness and crunchy fruit.

How is this rosé made?

This Bourgogne Rosé is made by the saignée method from Pinot Noir: part of the juice is drawn off after a short maceration with the skins. Gentle pressing is followed by vinification in stainless-steel tanks at low temperature to preserve freshness and fruit aromas. The result is a pale, elegant rosé, characteristic of the Pinot Noir of Chassagne-Montrachet.
