Gilbert & Gaillard Gold Medal for the Bourgogne Blanc Les Houillères 2022
Wonderful news for the estate: our Bourgogne Blanc Les Houillères 2022 has just been awarded a Gold Medal at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2026, with a score of 88/100. A distinction that rewards the patient work carried out on this lieu-dit in Chassagne-Montrachet, on the doorstep of Burgundy's greatest white-wine terroirs.
Run by Gilbert & Gaillard, the French wine guide distributed in more than thirty countries, the International Challenge puts thousands of wines from all over the world before a panel of professional tasters every year. The wines are judged blind — the jury knows neither the producer nor the price — and only the cuvées deemed outstanding are awarded a medal.

Here is the tasting note published by the jury:
“Attractive, fairly deep, brilliant yellow colour. Lively nose showing pastry-like, almost creamy aromas with a clear touch of oak. Typical, honest style on the palate with a velvety texture. A Chardonnay firmly rooted in its Burgundian character.”
— Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge 2026 jury
Grown on the Les Houillères lieu-dit in the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, this Chardonnay benefits from clay-limestone soils inherited from Jurassic deposits, right next to the great terroirs of Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet. Vinified in stainless-steel tanks and oak barrels to preserve the freshness of the fruit, it reflects the standards of quality that the Mac Mahon family, Duc de Magenta, applies even to its most accessible cuvées.
This Gold Medal joins the recognition the estate has already earned — Guide Hachette, Decanter, Jancis Robinson — and confirms the fine potential of the 2022 vintage. It rewards the whole team who bring this exceptional terroir to life, from vine to cellar. The wine is available from the estate's online shop.
